Best Hybrid Golf Rangefinder

Best Hybrid Golf RangefinderIt’s easy to be the best hybrid golf rangefinder when there isn’t much competition and that’s been true of this corner of the market for a long time. Honestly, we love the concept, but it hasn’t really gained traction. Perhaps golfers who want both laser and GPS are actually buying one of each. Check out our Budget-Friendly Laser and Budget-Friendly Golf GPS picks and you might find it’s less expensive than buying a hybrid golf rangefinder.

Callaway Hybrid LaserRead Full Review

We’ve always loved the idea of a laser and GPS unit in a single device. Our favorite feature on this model is that it has one battery for laser and one for GPS. That means that if one is not working, the other can still be used. The laser battery should last for months, but even if it does die, you can keep a spare in the bag.

We are still waiting for more feedback before doing our full Callaway Hybrid Rangefinder Review. However, we are really excited to finally see another hybrid rangefinder on the market.

Callaway Hybrid Laser User Rating:
4.50 Stars 4.50 out of 5 (8 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.

We love the idea of having the accuracy of laser combined with GPS information that a laser alone cannot provide.

Formerly, Bushnell was the only manufacturer to combine laser and GPS in a single unit. However the Bushnell Hybrid has one flaw that we feel is a deal-breaker for many ‘would be’ buyers. The battery for the GPS and the laser are one in the same and therefore the unit has to be charged after 14 hours of use for either the laser or GPS to work. Callaway has solved that problem by using separate batteries for the GPS and the laser. That means that even if you forget to charge the GPS battery, your laser will still work.

Note: Laser batteries usually last many months and can usually be replaced on the course if you keep a spare in the bag.

Besides the battery issue, the Callaway Hybrid has 6x magnification versus Bushnell’s 5x. It’s also a little smaller and lighter weight.

For us, even if we have to pay a little more, the dual batteries make the Callaway Hybrid much more desirable than the Bushnell, but we would love to hear how important that is to you. Leave us a comment below if you have any thoughts about hybrid laser rangefinders.

Callaway Hybrid Rangefinder Features
  • Laser accuracy to +/- 1 yard
  • 6x magnification; range: 5-1,000 yards
  • Scan mode to acquire multiple targets
  • GPS preloaded with 30,000+ global courses
  • No download or subscription fees
  • GPS distances to front, center, and back of green
  • GPS has layup and carry distances to hazards and doglegs

We give a big thumbs-up to Callaway for their first entry into the hybrid rangefinder market. The early feedback is favorable and the price is quite reasonable, so we expect to see this model gaining some traction soon.

The Bushnell Hybrid Golf Rangefinder has been retired. Check our current picks for Best Hybrid Golf Rangefinder.

If you are looking for a discount Bushnell Hybrid laser GPS rangefinder, you’re in the right place. Or should we say “on the right place”. The Internet will generally be your best bet for finding the lowest prices on golf rangefinders.

We have three suggestions for getting a discount Bushnell Hybrid…

SUGGESTION 1

Create Your Own Hybrid Rangefinder – Try pairing a budget-friendly golf GPS with a budget-friendly laser. You will get all of the same functionality, save money AND if you are a multi-player family, you can split the set for days when you are not playing in the same group.

SUGGESTION 2

Wait until winter. Last year, the Bushnell Hybrid price dropped way down, but when Spring arrived, it jumped back up and stayed there most of the summer. We can’t guarantee it will drop, but if you can wait it out, ther might be good deal to be found in the colder months.

Bushnell Hybrid User Rating:
4.50 Stars 4.50 out of 5 (93 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.

  • The Bushnell Hybrid gives you more pertinent information regarding golf distances than any rangefinder currently on the market.
  • It has the accuracy of laser and the extra information provided by GPS. That’s hard to beat if you like a complete picture when you’re playing golf.
  • Competition may come, but for now, there is nothing like the Bushnell Hybrid. Even with no competition, the price has come down quite a bit and certainly makes it worthy of consideration.

Golf Rangefinder Shop Assessment

Having GPS and Laser in the same device, was mentioned by more people than anything else in the nearly 50 reviews I read. Laser gives extremely accurate yardages to any target that you can get in its sights. The GPS gives distances to the front, middle and back of the green, as well as various hazards and layup positions. Those types of targets are difficult, if not impossible to get with a laser. That’s why we believe the Bushnell Hybrid Rangefinder is the best overall rangefinder on the market, at least until it gest some competition. That said, there was a surprise in the my analysis of the results that causes me to qualify that opinion in a big way.

Here it is… The Bushnell Hybrid Golf Rangefinder IS the best overall rangefinder (GPS & laser) for SOME users. If you’re the kind of person who is going to remember to regularly charge your rangefinder, then this is an excellent choice for you. What could really be better than having GPS and laser in the same device? But if you’re like me and just want to leave your rangefinder in your golf bag and have it ready to play at a moment’s notice, this may not be for you. In fact, you might want to head right on over to our Best Golf Rangefinder post.

My expectation before reading the reviews was that the laser and GPS battery would be separate, thus even if the GPS was dead, you could still use your laser. That’s not the case – the Bushnell Hybrid uses a single rechargeable battery and if it’s dead, neither the laser or the GPS will function. I’ve been using a laser for a long time and I carry an extra 9-volt battery in my bag, for the once a year when it dies. Considering how random my golf schedule is, I can’t imagine that I would be able to have my Bushnell Hybrid charged up for every round. For me, that is a deal breaker. But I know plenty of people who use GPS and remember to charge it up regularly. Their the ones I think would do well to make this purchase.

I’m still impressed with the GRS Score this device received. In GPS, it ranks very close to the top of models with similar GPS features. In Laser, it’s ranking isn’t at the top, but we believe that is largely because units with GPS rarely rank as high as laser.
