Our Leupold GX-2 Review looks at the pros and cons mentioned most often by users. The most frequent comment by far was that the GX-2 was easy to use. However, it’s the thing that was mentioned second most often that really gives it an edge…

The Leupold GX-2 not only measures the slope of a hill, but also takes into account the temperature and calculates how far a shot will really play. It also recommends a club based on information you input during setup.

Most Mentioned Pros (in order from high to low):

Users really seemed to enjoy those features that make the Leupold GX-2 and the GX-4 stand out from other rangefinders. There were not a lot of negative comments, but like all laser rangefinders, there were a handful of users who had trouble getting the distances. Read our full list of pros and cons below.

This is our Leupold GX-4i Review, but we recommend you skip it and go straight to our Leupold GX-4i2 review. It costs less and does more!

The Leupold GX-4i is more like a caddie than an accessory. It includes slope as well as club selection recommendations based on temperature, slope and your personal striking distances. These features disqualify the Leupold GX-4i from conforming to the USGA/R&A local rule, so it won’t be allowed in most competitions. Leupold was probably trying to get around this by adding the Smart Key faceplate, which turns off the illegal features, but that didn’t do it for the USGA. Maybe it will work with your golf buddies! Note: The USGA did give approval for the newer Leupold GX-4i2.

Leupold GX-4i User Rating: 4.20 Stars 4.20 out of 5 (5 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.

The main improvement to the Leupold GX-4i vs the GX-4 is what Leupold refers to as their DNA engine. According to Leupold spokesperson, “It screens out noise better to provide faster, more accurate readings. You will really notice this when you take multiple readings in sequence—there is almost no recovery time. The older models were quick and accurate, but this is simply a new level of performance, and one that we probably couldn’t have gotten to if we hadn’t engineered it (the DNA engine) ourselves.” There is a lot to be said for speed and ease of use in a rangefinder!

Leupold golf rangefinders with Slope are the only laser rangefinders on the market that actually suggest a club for you based on information you enter about your hitting distances. Practicing on the golf course with these tools could really benefit the player who wants to fine tune his or her game. Understanding how uphill and downhill shots and temperature affect club selection could certainly save shots. If that’s the type of player you are, then definitely consider one of these models. The Leupold GX-2i may be the one for you if budget is a concern. It doesn’t include the Smart Key or the red numbers, but it’s got all the rest.

This is our Bushnell Pro 1M Review Summary.

Bushnell Pro 1M User Rating: 4.20 Stars 4.20 out of 5 (18 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.

After checking out the features and product manual for the Bushnell’s new top of the line golf rangefinder, the Bushnell Pro 1M, we’re really looking forward to putting our hands on one of these powerful laser rangefinders. It’s  available in a Tournament Edition and a Slope Edition. Of course the Slope Edition will cost more and not be legal for tournament play, as it measures elevation.

Although the Bushnell Pro 1M not the first rangefinder to have 7x magnification, it is a rare find. The only other one of which we are aware is the Bushnell 1600.  There are a few features that we haven’t seen on previous Bushnell models that are worth mentioning.

  • Vivid Display Indicators™ – This is probably going to be what sets the new Bushnell rangefinders apart. It promises to dramatically improved contrast, clarity and light transmission while increasing brightness of the digital readout, making distance readings legible in low light environments. This technology will also be included in the soon to be released Bushnell Tour Z6 models.
  • Can measure up 1,000 on non-reflective objects and 1,760 yards on reflective.
  • Improved battery life indicator.
  • 35% improvement in battery life

The Leupold GX-3i golf rangefinder appears to only have a slight difference from its predecessor, the GX-3… SPEED. Leupold has engineered their own DNA engine to screen out noise better and provide faster and even more accurate yardages. The prices on these will likely come down as summer approaches, and I personally am putting this one on my short list. We’ll be reading customer reviews as they roll in and post our Reveiw Summary.
