We’re not going to do a full out SkyCaddie LINX Review. In our opinion, it’s just not worth our time or yours at this point. You are welcome to keep reading, but feel free to jump on over to our see what golf watches we do recommend.

SkyCaddie LINX User Rating: 3.32 Stars 3.32 out of 5 (50 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.

The early user reviews are lousy and even though you will see many advertisements that say “No annual fees or membership required”, to get the features you want on this watch, you’ll need to purchase an annual membership. The only group of people we might recommend this watch for are those who have over two years remaining on a SkyCaddie membership and are looking to buy a golf watch. Even then, we would offer a warning based on the user feedback we’ve seen so far… “It’s not that easy to use!”

SkyCaddie is the only brand that charges fees for their golf GPS devices to work properly. For $49 a year over an above the price of the device, you would expect to be getting the finest golf GPS experience available, yet users consistently give SkyCaddie devices lower ratings than other brands. If you are a current SkyCaddie user, we suggest cutting your losses and switching to another brand with no fees. If you’ve never had a SkyCaddie, we can’t think of a good reason to buy one just yet.

Okay, now you can hop on over to our Best Golf Watch page and find the one that fits your style of play!

This is our Garmin Vivoactive review. If you are looking for a model that includes heart rate, check out the Vivoactive HR.

Garmin vivoactive User Rating: 4.00 Stars 4.00 out of 5 (1613 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.

The Garmin Vivoactive gets good reviews as a multi-sport watch. However, there is minimal feedback from golfers on this watch. We don’t think it’s the best golf watch out there, but if you want a multi-sport smartwatch that you can use for golf as well running, biking, swimming, and/or walking, this is a really good value.

If you are looking for a golf watch with a nice activity tracker built-in, we suggest the Garmin Approach S20.

For Golfers: You get distance to the front, middle and back of every green, plus distances to layups and doglegs. It also has a shot measuring feature and a stroke-play scorecard for one player.

What you won’t get that can be found on most golf watches are distances to hazards, green shapes, and in many cases manual pin placements. If you’re not looking for a multi-sport watch, we suggest taking a look at our picks for “Best Golf Watch“.

Beyond Golf: The vívoactive is thin and lightweight, with a very readable screen. Apps for golf, running, swimming, biking and walking are built right into the watch. Garmin has been a leader in all of these sports watch markets for years.

The vívoactive has an accelerometer, so it also serves as a fitness tracker to track your steps and daily activity. It will even remind you if you haven’t been moving for awhile.

Like the latest Garmin golf watches, the vívoactive will have access to notifications from your smartphone. And like any good smartwatch, you’ll also be able to customize the look of your watch face!

Garmin also allows third-party developers to create apps for the vívoactive. That means many other apps will be available and already you can find a weather app, stock market app and more. We think it’s possible that a third-party golf app might even be able to make it a better golf watch in the future.

Our Swami Sport GPS Review will be completed in the coming weeks, but at first glance we think this unit looks like a great fit for a select set of golfers. First of all, the price is right for anyone on a budget. Secondly, we love the way this unit is designed to clip onto a golf bag. Honestly, other than having a golf watch on your wrist, we think clipping a GPS right on your bag is the most convenient place to have it. The bold, bright color will ensure that you don’t have trouble spotting it!

Izzo Swami Sport User Rating: 3.46 Stars 3.46 out of 5 (138 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.

The unit displays distance to the center in a large font and the distances to front and back in a medium sized font. The hole number, par and time of day are in a small font, but it’s nice that everything shows on the main screen. As the long is it changes holes automatically, there wouldn’t be any need to touch the unit during the round. However, in some Izzo devices, we’ve found that if left in a cart away from the green, the auto hole advance does not work. On this unit, it looks like easy enough to change holes manually with the press of a button.

It’s certainly small enough to carry in your pocket, but accidental button presses could be a problem.

Izzo continues to put out quality low cost golf GPS units that deliver simplicity and accuracy, so we’re anxious to put this one to the test.

Notable Features of the Swami Sport Golf GPS
  • Distance to front, middle and back of the green on the main screen.
  • Pre-loaded with over 30,000 golf courses worldwide.
  • No computer downloads or annual subscription required.
  • Simple and easy to read display

We are definitely looking forward to doing our TomTom Golfer GPS Watch Review. Besides being a very nice looking watch, TomTom appears to have taken a slightly different approach to displaying hazard distances. It’s a much more simplistic look than rival Garmin’s latest watches, but at a glance, we think the simplicity might work in TomTom’s favor.

TomTom Golfer User Rating: 3.70 Stars 3.70 out of 5 (100 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.

One thing we’ve already noticed about TomTom’s golf watch is that it includes distances to hazards as well as layup distances to doglegs and 100, 150 and 200 yardage markers. Our current top golf watch picks are the Garmin S4 and the Bushnell neo XS. The Garmin only has the layup distances and the Bushnell only has hazards. If TomTom executes this well, having both will be a big selling point.

The latest Garmin watch, the S6 has access to hazard information via the CourseView screen which displays graphic views of part of the hole. Unfortunately, it takes more than a quick glance to figure out what you’re seeing. The TomTom graphics are totally basic, which might actually make it easier and quicker to locate the distance you need.

The TomTom Golfer doesn’t have a touchscreen or any buttons on the face. Instead, there is a touchpad on the watchband. It’s a little unusual looking, but overall, the watch looks great. It comes preloaded with 34,000+ courses, is rainproof and it has a scorecard.
