SkyCaddie Aire Review

Our SkyCaddie Aire Review will be available as soon we get some feedback from users. This small golf GPS will be in stores soon, but rather than waiting, we would suggest buying a model with NO FEES, such as the Izzo Swami 4000.

Photo of SkyCaddie-Aire The SkyCaddie Aire is a part of the Sport Series of golf GPS devices from SkyGolf. The Sport Series is sort of like the economy rack at SkyCaddie. The only problem is that these lower end SkyCaddie models still have annual fees, so they will cost you a good deal more than the price you pay for the unit. SkyCaddie wants you to believe that they are more accurate than other brands, but until we see user reviews that exceed the competition, we won’t be giving a thumbs up to any GPS golf devices with fees.

SkyCaddie Aire Noteworthy Features
  • Big, easy-to-read front, center and back of green distances
  • Over 30,000 courses preloaded
  • scorecard
  • Odometer and Calorie Counter
  • Waterproof: IPX 6
  • Clock, timer, alarm, pace-of-play clock
  • 12 languages
  • 8-10 hours of battery life

The difference between the Sky Caddie Sport Series and the Tour Series apparently has something to do with the quality of the GPS satellite. Here’s how SkyGolf describes it:

SkyCaddie’s Sport Series of products use CGT (Core Golfer Technology) technology to provide a more economical distance solution by substituting conventional GPS technology found in competitive devices in lieu of SkyCaddie’s unmatched, but more costly, TruePoint Positioning Technology.

We’re not sold and will watch to see what users think, but the bar has been set pretty high. The Izzo Swami 4000 is the same price with no annual fees.

With a price this reasonable and reviews this good, why wouldn’t you want to buy the Bushnell Neo-X GPS golf watch? The answer to the question isn’t the same for every golfer, but we can break it down for you fairly quickly…

Bushnell NEO-X Watch User Rating: 4.39 Stars 4.39 out of 5 (469 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.
  1. If you want a digital scorecard, this isn’t the watch for you. (Try the Garmin S3 or S4.)
  2. If you want more than two hazards per hole, this isn’t the watch for you. (Try the Bushnell Neo XS.)
  3. If you prefer a round face, this isn’t the watch for you. (Try any of those three watches in the first two bullet points!)

Otherwise, there’s no good reason not to buy the Bushnell Neo-X. It has 30,000 golf courses preloaded with distances to the front, middle and back of every green, plus easy access to hazard and layup distances. It’s got the usual Auto Course Recogition, Auto Hole Advance, Shot Measuring and Round Odometer. It’s also among the best when it comes to battery life and there are no membership fees or required downloads.

Review after review had almost nothing but high praise for one of the smallest and lightest golf GPS watches on the market. Over 88% of all the comments we read were positive. The top mentions were accuracy, ease of use and good battery life. Quite a few users mentioned that it was easy to read with big numbers. Overall, the negative comments were sparse and seldom repeated.

GolfBuddy Voice+ Review…

Golf Buddy Voice+ User Rating: 4.36 Stars 4.36 out of 5 (80 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.

The first thing we noted is that the watchband can be removed if you decide you don’t like wearing a watch when you play golf. We think that’s a plus if you’re unsure of whether or not you’ll like playing with a watch.

The Golf Buddy Voice+ (Watch) is very similar to it’s wildly popular predecessor, the GolfBuddy Voice. The most noticeable difference, of course, is that it comes with a watch band. There is a difference on the main screen as well. On the new model, you’ll see the distance to the center of the green in a large font and distances to the front and back beside it in a smaller font. To fit this on the screen, they’ve moved the dynamic green view to a different screen. Both models provide voice distance to the front, middle and back. Your preference for having the green shape on your main screen vs having distances to the front and back may be the determining factor for which of these two units you buy – since you can now buy watch bands for the GolfBuddy Voice. Personally, I use distance to the front and back far more frequently, so prefer the Golf Buddy Voice+ (Watch).

Our SkyCaddie Gimme Review will be available as soon as we get some user feedback. It’s a basic golf GPS with distance to the front, middle and back of every green in a large unit with big bold numbers. It looks very similar to the less expensive Izzo Swami 4000, which has no annual fees.

SkyCaddie Gimme User Rating: 3.12 Stars 3.12 out of 5 (13 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.

SkyCaddie’s new Sport Series devices offer a lower price point than previous SkyCaddie models, but SkyCaddie continues to require annual membership fees. They continue to market their GPS products as superior based upon “ground-corrected course maps”, however user reviews show that SkyCaddie users are not any more satisfied than users of golf GPS devices that don’t required a paid subscription.

SkyCaddie has some pretty big names in their advertisements, from Peter Jacobson and Natalie Gulbis to Hank Haney and Michael Breed. Maybe that’s why they need to charge annual fees, but we’re still not buying. Other golf GPS devices get better reviews and they don’t have extra fees.

Our SkyCaddie Golf Watch review will be available soon, but here’s our preview of SkyCaddie’s first entry into the golf watch market.

SkyCaddie Watch User Rating: 3.68 Stars 3.68 out of 5 (309 reviews)

Score compiled from multiple sources.

The most interesting thing about the four new devices SkyCaddie is launching in its new Sport Series, is what they call Core Golfer Technology. As far as we can tell, this is the GPS receiver that makes Sport Series devices less expensive and not quite as good as SkyCaddie units with TruePoint Positioning Technology. TruePoint touts “ultra-fast satellite acquisition and unmatched accuracy and reliability” and is available in the SkyCaddie SGX and SGXw.

Let’s get this out of the way… like all SkyCaddie GPS devices, their golf watch will require a paid membership plan. Ugh. Apparently this paid membership model works for SkyCaddie, but we just don’t see the advantage to golfers. The base price may be okay, but add in the membership fees and it’s not even in the ballpark.

The competition among golf GPS watches is tough and at this point, we recommend doing some comparisons with other top-rated golf watches that don’t have any membership fees.
