Top 10 trophyThe following list is our picks for the top 10 Golf GPS devices. They range dramatically in price, features, and size, but all of them are solid performers. If you are uncertain about the features you want, we can tell you that most golfers only use the features that can be found on the most basic models. GolfBuddy has several basic models in the list below that do very well. Although a few of the devices can be used on a watchband, this list does not include our picks for Best Golf GPS Watches.

Top 10 Golf GPS Devices
Garmin Approach S10 - Read Full Review

The Garmin Approach S10 is the one we've been waiting for! It's small, lightweight, and simple to use. It doesn't try to be a multi-sport watch or a smartwatch. It puts the focus squarely on golf. On the main screen, you will see distances to the front, middle, and back of the green, plus the hole number and par. The shape of the green is also right there on the same screen. Many golfers will never even need to touch the watch after starting a round. If you need hazard information, it's one screen away. You can also keep score on this watch and upload your scores to Garmin Express so your playing history is always available. Although this golf watch has all the features most golfers want, for those looking for stats or hole views, Garmin has other golf watches you will want to check out.

Bushnell Phantom 2 - Read Full Review

This is the perfect golf GPS for 95% of the golfers we serve. The large font and transreflective display make it easy to see in all conditions. The BITE magnet holds firmly to your cart or if you're walking, the included belt clip or carabiner make it easy to find distances when you need them. The new GreenView feature allows for more precise distance by selecting a pin position. This unit charges in under 3 hours and gets up to 18 hours of play. It's super simple to use right out of the box. And, we love that it's fully waterproof so you can leave it up on those rainy days!

Garmin Approach G12 - Read Full Review

As expected, Garmin impressed us with this feature-pack golf GPS device. The most exciting thing about the Garmin G12 is the 30-hour battery life! That doubles the battery life of the Garmin G10 and it's 10 hours more than the Bushnell Phantom 2. At this price point, this will be the deciding factor for many golfers. Others will choose this model to use with the Garmin Approach CT10 Club Tracking System. The Garmin Approach G12 matches or exceeds the features of other golf GPS units in the same category. The price is a little bit higher, but if it's in your budget, the battery life, stat tracking, and analysis tools, make this worthy of your shortlist!

Izzo Swami 6000 - Read Full Review

The Izzo Swami 6000 has a colorful screen with LARGE easy-to-read distances to the front, middle, and back of every green. That alone makes this the ideal pick for anyone who might struggle to see the numbers on other golf GPS devices. Honestly, it's just nicer to look at than others in this price range. We're also impressed by the rave reviews on battery life. Izzo claims 16 hours and users seem to agree. Although the Swami 6000 has a built-in scorecard, users struggled to use it. If you don't record your score before heading to the next tee, it forwards to the next hole and you can't go back until you're 60 yards down the next fairway. That's not exactly the perfect time to enter your score, so we don't recommend this model if scorekeeping is on your desired feature list. The price point on this model is perfect for what it offers. It's easy to see and easy to use. It also provides distances to hazards and doglegs and a strong magnet for mounting to your cart or the included belt clip.

GolfBuddy has a winning formula with its GB Voice line. It's small, easy to use, lightweight, with an LCD screen, as well as voice distances. Plus, it's budget-friendly. The GolfBuddy GB Voice 2 SE increases the battery life over previous models to up to 20 hours. That's the most important feature of this solid performing compact golf GPS. We love it! We also love that you can see distances to the front, middle, and back of each green and also switch over to see the shape of the green when you want. It comes preloaded with 40,000 golf courses and can be updated using GolfBuddy GB Manager.

GolfBuddy just keeps building on a winning theme. The GolfBuddy Voice 2 claims 14 hours of battery life. That's four hours more than the GolfBuddy VS4! It's water resistant, has the choice of male or female voice, and of course provides distances to the front, middle, and back of the green. It's available in three different colors as well. GolfBuddy Voice X - Read Full Review

The GolfBuddy Voice line has been a huge success from the beginning. The VoiceX is the latest in this line and has a few nice upgrades from its predecessor the GolfBuddy Voice 2. The most notable improvement is that it adds Bluetooth connectivity to your smartphone for automatic updates to the golf course you're playing when you enter golf mode. The screen is a little larger and it has a Big Numbers mode and manual pin placement capability. It also adds a fairly detailed GPS activity tracker for runners and walkers. It may sacrifice some battery life for the extra features, but should still easily get 2 full rounds. A watchband is available separately.

Voice Caddie VC300 - Read Full Review

The Voice Caddie VC300 is a great choice for the golfer who wants to keep it simple, especially if he or she wears a cap or visor. It's small, sleek and unobtrusive and provides auditory distances to the front, middle and back of every green. The sound quality is excellent, which is good, since there isn't not a digital display. It also has shot measuring, but we just like the fact that it does what it's supposed to do without any hassle.

Best Golf Laser Rangefinder with Slope
Precision Pro NX7 Pro - Read Full Review

We like the looks, features, and the price of this newcomer to the golf rangefinder market. This is a Slope rangefinder that meets the new USGA requirements with a switch to turn off the Slope mode, thus making it legal for competition. It looks to have all the same features as the much more expensive Bushnell Tour V4 Shift at a significantly lower price. Plus it offers free lifetime battery replacement. The NX7 Pro will also be in direct competition with the Leupold GX-2i2, which sells for a similar price. In our hands-on testing, we have been very pleased with the performance of the NX7 Pro.

Gogogo Sport Vpro GS03 - Read Full Review

The Gogogo Sport VPro GS03 offers several extremely affordable options and the reviews are excellent. Of course, the price is even better! If you're a hunter and a golfer, this model should work just fine for both sports. Make sure to put it into Golf mode when hit the links. If you tend to be rough on your equipment or you play in the rain, you may want to check out Bushnell. The Gogogo VPro GS03 isn't water-resistant and the hardware doesn't seem quite as durable. Still, at this price point and a 30-day return policy, we're giving the Gogogo GS03 a thumbs up!

TecTecTec VPRO500 - Read Full Review

We put the TecTecTec VPRO500 in our top picks because performance this good at a price point this low is unmatched in our opinion. We saw the incredible ratings but had to test it ourselves and it surpassed our expectations! TecTecTec may not be the best-known brand in the golf rangefinder market, but I don't know of any of the lesser known brands that have ratings this high. This unit has 6x magnification, Pinseeker Mode, and a Scan mode. In our hands-on testing, the only issue we noticed is that it may display up to 4 yards difference when ranging the same target repeatedly. Other models in our lineup tend to be within a yard or two. If that is a concern for you, check out our Best Golf Laser Rangefinders.

Garmin vs Bushnell Golf Watch 2022

Garmin vs Bushnell Golf WatchOnce upon a time, the Garmin vs Bushnell Golf Watch conversation was worth having. Although Bushnell does still offer a golf watch, the ratings are lousy and we just cannot recommend it.

Garmin on the other hand, has continued to dominate the golf watch category. While most of their watches are high-end and feature-rich, they also offer a more affordable option in the Garmin Approach S12, which is no slouch when it comes to features.

When it comes to feature-loaded golf watches, Garmin has nailed it…(Keep reading below)

Keep in mind that Garmin has been doing sports watches for a very long time and it’s no surprise how well they balance features with ease of use, not to mention they have some of the best-looking golf watches we’ve seen.

Most if not all of the currently available Garmin golf watches have a scorecard and stats feature. They have made recording your putts, fairways hit, and greens in regulation, an easy thing to do. Even better, you can access analysis of this information on your computer or an app on your smartphone. If you are looking to find the weak spots in your game, this can be very helpful.

Several of the Garmin golf watches allow touch targeting of the pin location and some even have touch targeting on fairway views. There are even Garmin golf watches that measure distance and record shot locations for post-round analysis.

Beyond the golf features, many of these watches are adding smartwatch features. Smartphone notifications, fitness tracking, sleep tracking, and more have been smoothly integrated into Garmin’s line of golf watches. Garmin even has a few multi-sport watches that include golf, which is a real bonus for multi-sport athletes.

There’s not really enough praise to heap on Garmin for the variety of choices and outstanding implementation. Check out our complete list of Garmin Golf Watch summaries .

Best Golf Rangefinder 2013

Our Best Golf Rangefinder 2013 list currently includes GPS and laser rangefinders that were released in 2013. If you are interested in seeing our top picks overall, check out our picks for Best Golf Rangefinder.

Top Laser Golf Rangefinders New in 2013

  1. Bushnell Tour V3 – Read Full Review
We like the addition of “Jolt” technology that causes the unit to vibrate when it locks onto the target. This should be a big help to users who struggle to know when they are seeing the correct distance.
  2. Callaway XHot – Read Full Review
Callaway laser rangefinders are hard to beat in price and performance. This one is almost exactly the same as the hugely successful Callaway Diablo Octane.
  3. Leupold GX-1i – Read Full Review
A solid golf laser rangefinder with 6x magnification. Leupold GX-1i improves upon its predecessor, the GX-1, by improving the speed and accuracy of target acquisitions.
  4. Leupold GX-2i – Read Full Review
If you’re looking for a laser rangefinder with Slope, we definitely recommend buying a Leupold. Like the GX-1i, this model improves speed and accuracy over its forerunner, the GX-2.

Other Laser Rangefinders New in 2013

  • Leupold PinCaddie – Read Review
Leupold is adding an entry level laser rangefinder to their line of golf rangefinders, that should be significantly less expensive than their other models. Although it may lack some of the features that make other Leupold models easy to use, it’s still going to have the 6x magnification. If the street price ends up in the right range, experienced rangefinder users on a budget will be all over this model.

This watch is a direct competitor with the Garmin Approach S2 (below), but has the bonus of being able to manually change the pin position. It does however weigh a little more.
  4. GolfBuddy VT3 (with watch option) – Read Full Review – On paper, this looks hard to beat. It’s a touchscreen with advanced features for a unit this size. It comes with a watch band and a belt clip, so you decide how to wear it.
  5. GolfBuddy Voice+ (with watch option) – Read Full Review
Building on the success of the GolfBuddy Voice, GolfBuddy has added a removable band, an hour of battery life and visual distances to the front and back of the green. Another great idea from GolfBuddy.
  6. Garmin Approach S2 Golf Watch – Read Full Review
The Garmin Approach S2 has truly found its place in the middle between the S1 and the S3. It goes beyond the S1 in providing distances to layups and doglegs in addition to the standard front-middle-back distances. It also has a digital scorecard, which was absent in the S1. It stops short of the Approach S3 by excluding manual pin positioning and a touchscreen. Garmin golf watches have so far proven exceptional.

Other Golf GPS Devices Including Watches
New in 2013

  • SkyCaddie Golf Watch – Read Full Review
The SkyCaddie Golf Watch will provide distance to the front, middle and back of green, measure your shots and provides a digital scorecard. Beyond that, it has a timer, alarm, odometer and calorie counter. Unfortunately, SkyCaddie still charges annual fees on all of their GPS golf rangefinders.

A basic golf GPS with large numbers providing distance to the front, middle and back of greens. It also has a scorecard and shot measuring, but unfortunately requires annual subscription fees.
  • SkyCaddie Breeze – Read Full Review
Again SkyCaddie offers a basic unit with annual fees and opportunities to spend even more for upgrades.
  • Pebble Watch – Read Full Review
The Pebble watch is not specifically a golf GPS, but rather a smart watch that utilizes a golf app running on your smart phone. We have no idea how this is going to work out, but if you’re a golfer and a gadget geek, this seems worth a try!
